As a form of IP protection, plant varieties rights enable plant breeders to protect their varieties.
Plant Varieties
The PBR provides protection for new plant varieties which are distinctive, uniform and stable following repeated propagation (so-called “DUS” requirements). To get protection in Turkey, plant varieties must not have been commercialised within Turkey more than one year prior to filing your application, or outside Turkey more than four years prior to filing (six years for a tree or vine species).
PBRs are granted for a maximum term of 20 years, with the exception of 25 years for trees and vines, from the date of grant of the right. After grant, they should be renewed at the beginning of each protection year.
